Baniya elected NC president in Bagmati Province



KATHMANDU: Indra Baniya, a candidate of Sher Bahadur Deuba’s faction, has been elected as Nepali Congress (NC) President of Bagmati Province under the party’s 14th general convention.

According to the results of vote count that concluded Sunday night, Baniya defeated Jagadishwar Nar Singh KC of Ram Chandra Poudel’s faction. Baniya received 1,085 votes against KC’s 927 votes. Out of the 2,025 votes cast, 13 were declared invalid.

Earlier, among three candidates vying for Bagmati NC presidency, none were able to garner minimum of 50 percent votes. After that, election was held among the top two candidates securing the highest votes.

Representing leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula’s faction Bhimsen Das Pradhan got the lowest number of votes in the first round and was eliminated. Later on, Pradhan extended his support to Baniya.
