Former Transport Minister Balayar elected NC president in Sudurpaschim Province

KATHMANDU: Former Transport Minister Bir Bahadur Balayar has been elected as Sudurpaschim Province President of the Nepali Congress (NC) in the party’s ongoing 14th general convention.

Balayar secured 688 votes against rival candidate Narayan Dutt Mishra’s 280 votes to clinch NC presidency in the province. Out of the total 1,026 delegates, 1,003 had cast their votes. Balayar is close to NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s faction.

Balayar’s panel also won the posts of office bearers. Janak Raj Chaudhary and Lokraj Awasti became vice-presidents with 610 and 523 votes respectively. Similarly, Meghraj Khadka and Narnarayan Shah were elected general secretaries with 648 and 635 votes respectively.

Likewise, Chintamani Bhatta, Gopaldatta Bhatta, and Ambika Kumari Chalaune were elected joint general secretaries with 529, 533 and 686 votes respectively.
