55,000 Nepalis receive American citizenships



KATHMANDU: The number of Nepali people receiving American citizenships has reached 55,000 so far.

According to the Department of Homeland Security of the United States of America, 4,806 Nepali people had received the American citizenships in the year 2020.

In the first quarter of the year 2020, 1,644 Nepali people had obtained American citizenships, 1,354 got citizenships in the second quarter and 646 in the third quarter and 1,162 in the last quarter, said the Department.

Similarly, in the year 2019, 7,409 Nepali people had received American citizenships. Of them, 3,577 were females and 3,832 were males.

In 2018, 5,352 Nepali people had received American citizenships. Earlier, in 1990, only 37 Nepali people had received American citizenships.

Nepali people rank seventh in terms of joining the American Army and thereby receiving American citizenships, according to the data maintained by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

According to the data, 1,000 Nepali people have received American citizenships in the last five years by joining the US Army.
