NC finalizes two names to join Karnali government

Yagya Bahadur BC and Dinbandhu Shrestha to be ministers from NC

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) Karnali Province Parliamentary Party (PP) has nominated two of its Provincial Assembly (PA) members to become ministers in the government.

A meeting of Karnali NC PP on Saturday decided to join the government by proposing Yagya Bahadur BC as the Minister of Social Development and Dinbandhu Shrestha as the Minister of Water Resources and Energy Development. These two names have been sent to Karnali Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi for appointment.

CM Shahi will likely appoint them Saturday to be sworn in on Sunday.

The NC has also issued a 13-point code of conduct for its PA members participating in the government. The code of conduct states that the policy of zero tolerance on corruption should be followed and economic discipline, hygiene, economy and happy lifestyle should be adopted, among other things.

When CM Shahi took the vote of confidence on April 16, the NC supported him. In that process, four lawmakers from the CPN-UML’s Madhav Nepal group also crossed the floor to secure CM Shahi’s government in the province.

CM Shahi has already made three people, who crossed the floor, Ministers in his government.

After the UML and the Maoist Center were jolted back to pre-unification stage, the UML withdrew its support for the Maoist-led government and CM Shahi had to seek a vote of confidence.

The Karnali Province government will now have three Maoist ministers, including CM Shahi, three floor-crossing UML ministers, who now stand as independents, and two from the NC.
