PM Oli asks British counterpart Johnson to provide Nepal COVID vaccines

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has requested his British counterpart Boris Johnson to provide Nepal COVID-19 vaccines.

In an interview with BBC World Service, Prime Minister Oli said the United Kingdom should prioritize Nepal for COVI-19 vaccines keeping in mind the contribution made by Gurkha armies to the UK.

Prime Minister has stated that Nepal should have the right to ask for vaccines based on the age-hold bilateral ties between the two countries.

The UK has provided 548 million pounds to COVAX under which Nepal will receive vaccines, BBC quoted UK’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson as saying.

According to the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Nepal will receive the COVID-19 vaccines this year.

Earlier last week, President Bhandari had also written a letter to UK’s Queen Elizabeth II requesting the latter to provide Nepal COVID-19 vaccines.
