US provides Rs 4.70 billion for COVID-19 control, prevention



KATHMANDU: The United States has provided Rs 4.7 billion to Nepal for the control and treatment of the coronavirus pandemic to Nepal.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has provided USD 36.8 million and the US Department of Defence provided USD 3.1 million.

USAID noted that Covid-19 assistance reached 55 percent of the population through its partner implementing agencies.

USAID’s assistance has been mobilized to improve treatment, equipment, and service delivery at the community and municipal levels.

USAID is distributing 100 ventilators, 10,000 personal protective equipment (PPEs), and antiviral drugs for HIV-infected people.

The US Department of Defense has provided USD 3.1 million for PPE, respiratory equipment, isolation, and disaster management camp equipment, telemedicine equipment, and COVID-19 testing equipment, as well as hand washing facilities for health clinics.
