Gagan Thapa questions govt double standard



KATHMANDU: Gagan Thapa, a youth leader of the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC), has accused the government of flouting the self-developed COVID-19 public health protocols in the parliament floor on Monday.

According to Thapa, the government urges the public to abstain from mass gatherings but forgets that it has been holding various programs in presence of large crowds. He stressed the government should not differentiate the public from itself.

“On the one hand, the government issues an appeal urging the public not to celebrate Holi, but on the other the Prime Minister takes part in a footballing event amidst thousands of spectators,” Thapa said. He went on to add that the government could participate in the footballing event but the public would not able to play Holi due to fear of spread of coronavirus.

He also referenced the government’s official inaugural ceremony to mark distribution of Melamchi water to Kathmandu residents in the same vein. The Melachi water distribution official program was inaugurated by President Bidhya Devi Bhandari.
