NC Gen Convention: Voting delayed in Province 1 due to defective ballot paper



BIRATNAGAR: The election scheduled to elect a new leadership in Province 1 under the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress (NC) has been deferred.

The election has been deferred after a ballot paper was found defective, said the Election Commission of the NC.

The voting which was scheduled to begin from 8 am this morning was deferred until 1 pm.  A total of 20 candidates are contesting the elections for the post of nine office-bearers in Province 1.

Leaders Guru Raj Ghimire and Uddhav Thapa are in the fray for the post of President.  Ghimire of Morang is backed by Poudel faction while Thapa of Jhapa is backed by Sitaula and Deuba factions.

Similarly, Govinda Dhungana, Tanka Rai, Bishwo Nath Rijal and Ramesh Jung Rayamajhi are vying for the post of two vice presidents.

For the post of two general secretaries, Dipen Shrestha, Bhupendra Rai, Umesh Thapa and Padam Sundar Palunga are contesting the elections.
