Nepal Bar warns of agitation against leadership of judiciary and government

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Bar Association (NBA) has said that it will always oppose and condemn the activities that are against check and balance of power among the state organs, the principle of separation of powers, constitutional supremacy, and independent, competent and impartial judiciary.

Issuing a statement on Monday, NBA warned that no activities against the code of conduct of judiciary will be acceptable.

The warning was issued on Monday afternoon in response to reports that Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana had recommended name of some people close to him in Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s cabinet and PM Deuba has agreed to give CJ Rana’s share in the cabinet.

“If the news about the Chief Justice is true, then the Nepal Bar is of the view that there is a serious crisis in the independence, efficiency and impartiality of the judiciary,” NBA said in the statement.

In such a situation, the NBA warns that it will be forced to launch a strong agitation against the leadership of the judiciary and the government.
