NC’s 14th Gen Convention unlikely on Sept 1-4

Membership dispute in 13 constituencies

KATHMANDU: The 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress (NC) scheduled for September 1-4 is most likely to be postponed as there is less than a month before the time scheduled.

Ward, municipal conventions should have been completed by this time. However, the schedule for the conventions has been hit due to the row cropped up in active memberships and partly on account of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The NC had formed an active membership probe committee led by Ramesh Lekhak. It has already handed over a report to party President Sher Bahadur Deuba by withholding the disputes in Bara and Rautahat.

The dispute has not yet been resolved despite efforts rendered by a high-level committee comprised of President Deuba, senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel and leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula.

The NC has a legal compulsion to hold 14th General Convention by September 1-4.

The membership dispute is still going on in 13 constituencies including Bara, Parsa, Saptari, Sarlahi-2, Sindhupalchowk, Rasuwa, Dhanusha-4, and Tikapur of Kailali.
