Maoist Center calls SC meeting at 3 pm

KATHMANDU: The CPN-Maoist Center has called its Standing Committee (SC) meeting at its Parisdanda-based party office at 3 PM on Tuesday.

According to party sources, the ‘informal meeting’ of the party is scheduled to discuss the latest political situation in the country.

The politics of the country is taking unexpected turns and twists of late. Prime Minister KP Oli has announced to take a vote of confidence in Parliament on May 10.

The meeting of the Maoist SC is expected to discuss various options the party has to take to end the current political impasse.

The main opposition parties, the Nepali Congress (NC) and the Maoist Center, have not been able to table a no-confidence motion due to lack of enough votes.

The Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) is also divided on whether to support PM Oli or join the new government led by Nepali Congress.

JSP president Mahanta Thakur and senior leader Rajendra Mahato have invited the lawmakers to Kathmandu.

JSP’s other faction led by former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai and Deputy Prime Minister Upendra Yadav are against PM Oli.
