UML’s Nepal-Khanal faction forms parallel structure in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: The Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal faction of the CPN-UML has formed the Kathmandu district committee on Sunday. The district committee is a parallel structure of the UML in Kathmandu.

The district committee is formed under the leadership (chairmanship) of Bagmati Provincial Assembly member Basanta Prasad Manandhar, who is also a member of the Central Committee (CC) of the UML.

The faction’s move is in line with its campaign to establish parallel structures within the UML, which is marred by intra-party conflict between Nepal-Khanal faction and Prime Minister KP Oli.

Likewise, Shova Sapkota is picked the faction’s Kathmandu district committee’s vice chair, and Kusum Kumar Karki and Laxmi Prasad Shrestha are the secretaries. Similarly, Kathmandu district committee will have 225 members.

It is important to note that Krishna Rai is the chairman of UML Kathmandu district committee that aligns with PM KP Oli faction. Rai is also UML CC member and lawmaker in the Federal Parliament.
