Federal, province committees to be requested for assistance to fire victims



KATHMANDU: A decision has been made to seek the help from the Central and Province Disaster Management Committees to ensure sufficient relief and monetary assistance to the survivors of Dobhan Bazaar of Meringan rural municipality.

A meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee ended with this decision.

The Committee agreed to provide Rs 15,000 each to the victim families having five members and Rs 20,000 each to those families having more than five members, said Chief District Office and Committee chair Umesh Pandey.

Thirty-three families who have rendered homeless by the disasters and 27 families of tenants are eligible for getting the assistance which will be distributed through a one-door system.

Any individual or an organization wishing to assist the survivors should reach among them through the local government.

Similarly, it is said a team led by Province 1 Chief Minister Sherdhan Rai is scheduled to arrive here with a relief package, according to CDO Pandey.

The meeting decided to seek ways for sustainable management of the survivors.

It may be noted that the fire at Dobhan Bazaar on Tuesday morning had destroyed 49 houses, leaving 55 families including tenants homeless. This is just the preliminary assessment of the loss and the further details are awaited.
