Biplav faction’s Secretariat member Bastola rearrested after SC orders release

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered to release of the third-ranked leader of the Nepal Communist Party led by Netra Bikram Chand alias Biplav Dharmendra Bastola ‘Kanchan’.

The apex court issued the order on Thursday while hearing the habeas corpus petition filed by Hima Bastola against the arrest.

A bench of justices Deepak Kumar Karki and Sushma Lata Mathema ordered his release.

However, police rearrested Bastola after the release.

It is learned that Bastola has been kept at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Kamal Pokhari.

Earlier, the court had ordered police to produce Bastola before the court within 24 hours.

Western Command in-charge and member of the Secretariat of the outlawed Biplav outfit Bastola was remanded by Lalitpur District Court on January 17 in police custody for six days for investigation.

Bastola was arrested from Gimdi of Lalitpur, a border area of Lalitpur and Makwanpur by a special police team deployed from Kathmandu and Lalitpur.

Bastola is also a member of the faction’s secretariat and head of the Foreign Department.
