Nepal to get 2,256,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines under WHO’s COVAX facility

KATHMANDU: The World Health Organization (WHO) says Nepal would get as many as 2,256,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines under the COVAX facility of the global health body.

The WHO said Nepal is getting 2,56,000 doses of  AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine produced by the Serum Institute of India.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, the WHO has already informed the government that the country will receive these doses of vaccines within a month, most probably in the second week of February or the first week of March.

According to the Ministry, the doses of vaccines received under the COVAX facility will be administered to people above 55 years of age.

Likewise, the WHO said that the total doses will be enough to inoculate 3.3% of Nepal’s total population.
