Re-elected UML Chair Oli assumes office

Demands early election as the only way out from ongoing 'chaos'

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairperson KP Oli, who has been re-elected as the party head for the second time, has assumed the office of party chair at UML’s Central Office in Thapathali, Kathmandu, on Friday.

Oli was elected as the chairperson for his second term from UML’s 10th  General Convention recently held in Chitwan. He was re-elected to the post securing 1,837 votes.

He assumed office at UML’s central office in Thapathali. Chairman Oli was welcomed at the party office by Senior Vice Chairman Ishwor Pokhrel, General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel and Office Secretary Sher Bahadur Tamang.

General Secretary Pokharel handed over a document to Chairman Oli for signing before he assumed office.

Oli, who wanted continuation of the role as Chairman unanimously, had to contest with influential leader Dr. Bhim Rawal, though the former won the election with a landslide. Assuming office in Kathmandu, the UML Chairman reiterated on the need to hold elections at all levels as early as possible.

“Only election can help the country come out from the current crisis and chaos,” Chairman Oli said while resuming office, adding, “UML has been claiming that the government is a failure. Our conclusion is that only election can help the country overcome the current crisis.”

Although political analysts claimed the convention had been highly influenced by Chairman Oli’s choice making room for autocracy, the UML Chairman described the 10th General Convention as a grand success.
