NC’s Poudel faction objects to report of active membership investigation committee

KATHMANDU: A meeting of Nepali Congress (NC) leaders, close to senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel faction, held at NC leader Prakash Man Singh’s residence in Chaksibari, Kathmandu, Tuesday has objected to the report submitted by active membership dispute investigation committee.

NC leaders including General Secretary Dr. Shashank Koirala, Dr. Shekhar Koirala, former General Secretary Singh, Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat, and Arjun Narsingh KC, among others, disagreed with the report submitted by a committee formed under NC leader Ramesh Lekhak.

“The name that came unanimously from below should be kept as it is, and new criteria should be used to investigate the dispute,” leader KC said after the meeting.

Tuesday’s informal meeting of the leaders also concluded that the membership dispute should be resolved from the party’s Central Committee meeting.

Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba is holding discussions with senior leaders Poudel and Krishna Prasad Sitaula on Wednesday to discuss what to do about the 13 constituencies that the investigation committee could not finalize.

The pre-determined schedule of the ruling NC’s 14th General Convention scheduled for August has been affected due to the dispute over active membership renewal and distribution.

NC President Deuba was appointed the Prime Minister on July 3 amid the compulsion to hold a general convention on the stipulated time.

PM Deuba is under pressure to complete cabinet formation and work simultaneously on the calendar of party’s general convention.
