EC cancels registration of 41 political parties

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has revoked the registration of 41 political parties.

EC Spokesperson Raj Kumar Shrestha said the EC held a meeting on Tuesday and decided to cancel the registration of 41 parties with effect from Wednesday. Following the decision, now only 95 parties are registered with the EC.

The EC imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on each of the revoked political parties and sent a letter to the Central Arrears Recovery Office to collect the due. Unless the fine is paid in full, office-bearers of the disbanded parties can neither join other political parties registered with the EC or form a new party.
