A Cabinet meeting Monday recommended to appoint Sita Poudel as new Gandaki state Governor and Ganga Prasad Yadav as Sudurpaschim Governor

KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has administered the oath of office and secrecy to newly-appointed Gandaki Province Governor Sita Poudel and Sudurpaschim Province Governor Ganga Prasad Yadav Monday evening.

The government earlier Monday recommended appointing Sita Poudel and Ganga Prasad Yadav as the new governors respectively.

The government also sacked former Governors in the provinces who were from the CPN (Maoist Center). A cabinet meeting held in Baluwatar on Monday decided to recommend to the President to remove the heads of the two provinces.

Sharmila Kumari Pant (Tripathi) of Sudurpaschim Province and Amik Sherchan of Gandaki Province had been made the governors in the past as per power-sharing deal with CPN-Maoist Center.

After the dissolution of erstwhile ruling Nepal Communist Party, the government had sacked province 2 governor Tilak Pariyar, who was also affiliated with Maoists, and had appointed Dr. Rajesh Jha Ahiraj as the new governor in Province 2.
