UML’s Nepal-Khanal faction holding SC meeting at 3 pm

KATHMANDU: The Nepal-Khanal faction of ruling CPN-UML is holding a Standing Committee (SC) meeting on Saturday.

The SC meeting to be held at 3 pm today will officially decide to consolidate organizations of the party and launch a nationwide cadres’ orientation programs, informed Yogesh Bhattarai, the leader of the faction.

Earlier, Nepal-Khanal faction had organized a national cadres’ orientation program in Lalitpur on March 17-18. The disgruntled faction has been expediting parallel activities since then.

The establishment has suspended UML senior leader Madhav Nepal, Vice Chairman Bhim Rawal, Deputy General Secretary Ghanashyam Bhusal and Standing Committee member Surendra Pandey for six months for carrying out anti-party activities.

They were suspended saying that their response to the clarification sought by the party was found unsatisfactory.

General Secretary Ishwar Pokharel had sought a clarification from Nepal, Rawal, Pandey and Bhusal in line with the decision of the central committee (CC) meeting convened on March 20.

Ruling UML is on the verge of split as the disgruntled faction is making preparations to form a new party.
