62,000 Nepalis leave for foreign employment amid COVID-19 pandemic



KATHMANDU: Over 62,000 Nepali people have left the country for foreign employment during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Nepali migrant workers have reached different 97 countries abroad since mid-July after the government lifted the ban on labor on July 3. The government had halted the labor permit in March.

As many as 21,900 Nepali youths left the country for foreign jobs during December 16 to January 13, according to the data provided by the Department of Foreign Employment.

Similarly, 16,800 Nepalis in the Nepali month Mangsir,9,300 in Kartik, 9,639 in Asoj and 3,000 in Shrawan had left the country for foreign employment.

Meanwhile, over 243, 400 Nepali people have returned home from abroad during the pandemic.
