School closed after 25 students test COVID-19 positive in single day

BAGLUNG: Baglung district has been alert following the increasing cases of COVID-19 lately.

The number of active infection cases has shot up to 41 on Thursday from 13 on Wednesday, according to the district public health office.

A school at Balewa in Baglung Municipality has been closed after its 25 students were tested positive for the virus on Thursday alone. As a result, the school management committee meeting decided to close the school until further notice, said the health office.

The infection confirmation among the students was from the total 82 virus tests, said the public health inspector Dev Prakash Ghimire. Virus tests among other students would be conducted on Friday, said the school administration.

Similarly, three COVID-19 cases at the community level were confirmed, fuelling infection risks in the community, said the health office. The district COVID-19 crisis management committee would take a decision to this effect when a health office team on Friday would reach out and take stock of the situation in the area, said Ghimire.

At present, two infected persons are receiving treatment at Dhawalagiri Hospital, Baglung. Following this, the health office has urged people to stay alert.
