Over 10 million get COVID-19 vaccines in Nepal, acknowledgment from WHO regional director



KATHMANDU: Over 10 million people in Nepal have received COVID-19 vaccines. The vaccination campaign is going on from the government level.

It may be noted the very first meeting of the Council of Ministers after Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba assumed office on July 13 decided to administer COVID-19 vaccines to all the eligible citizens by coming mid-April.

The COVID-19 vaccination drive was kicked off in Nepal in late January this year. Till Wednesday, 10 million 92 thousand people have got the COVID-19 jabs, according to the Ministry of Health and Population.

According to the data, 17.9 percent population (5,424,836) have received the first dose of the vaccine while 15.4 (4,667,328) have been administered the complete dose of the vaccine.

Vero Cell, Johnson $ Johnson, Covishield, Japan-manufactured AstraZeneca, and Swiss AstraZeneca are used in Nepal as vaccines against COVID-19. The government has intensified the COVID-19 vaccination drive to meet its target of providing vaccines to 30 percent of citizens by coming October 17.

Meanwhile, World Health Organisation’s southeast Asia regional director Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh has congratulated Nepal for the good management of the vaccination drive and its ability to fully vaccinate 15 percent of the population in a short span of time.
