Three UML lawmakers resign in Lumbini

UML loses its majority in the province assembly

KATHMANDU: Giving a surprising touch to the ongoing political twists and turns in the Lumbini province, three CPN-UML lawmakers have resigned from the province assembly.

According to the sources, dissatisfied with the UML parliamentary party’s decision to reappoint Shankar Pokhrel as the new Chief Minister of Lumbini province, three disgruntled lawmakers have resigned from the party and the post of province lawmakers.

Dugnarayan Pandey elected from Kapilvastu Constituency No. 1 (a), Dharma Bahadur Lal Srivastava elected from Kapilvastu Constituency No. 2 (b), and Ajay Shahi of Nawalparasi West have resigned today.

Earlier, Chief Minister Pokhrel had resigned from the post of CM to claim himself the majority leader to form the government in the province assembly.

However, after one of the lawmakers deserted UML parliamentary party and joined CPN-UML, Pokhrel’s claim had lost its weight.

In the meantime, the Province governor, despite the claim of the opposition parties that they have the majority lawmakers with them, has re-appointed Pokhrel as new Chief Minister.
