MCC Vice President Fatima visiting Nepal next week



KATHMANDU: Vice President of Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Fatima Z. Sumar is visiting Nepal next week, sources have said.

During her visit to Nepal, she will hold talks with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli, leaders of the ruling coalition parties Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda”, Madhav Kumar Nepal and other lawmakers.

Sumar, who has been working in various positions of MCC for a long time, has recently been appointed as the Vice President of MCC.

She was also involved in the final discussions between Nepal and the US on MCC assistance.

Nepal has signed the MCC agreement in 2017. Under the agreement, Nepal will receive US$ 500 million (approximately Rs. 60 billion) for the construction of power transmission lines and road maintenance in the country.

As Vice President of Compact Operations at the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), she also oversees all compacts which are MCC’s signature grant investment vehicle to reduce poverty through economic growth.

In this role, she manages all of MCC’s technical and regional divisions working on infrastructure, the environment and climate change, the private sector, gender and social inclusion, human and community development, land and agriculture, procurement, financial management, strategic partnerships, and contracts and grant management globally, according to MCC.

She previously served as MCC’s Deputy Vice President for Europe, Asia, the Pacific, and Latin America where she managed all MCC compacts in these regions.
