Four injured in clash between health workers and police at Bir Hospital

The clash ensued when police intervened a demonstration staged by hospital staffers against Chief Executive Officer Dr. Jageshwor Gautam. The police charged batons against hospital employees and health works, injuring four, said hospital staffer Dipak Mudbhari.

Earlier, the government had introduced an ordinance to turn Bir Hospital into a COVID-19 Unified Hospital. Accordingly, Dr. Gautam was appointed chief of Bir Hospital after the government decision.

But since Dr. Gautam’s arrival, health workers and staff have taken to protest, stating the hospital’s services had not improved and financial amomalies had increased under his leadership.
