NC protests removal of graffiti from Ratna Park sky bridge

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) has protested the removal of graffiti made by artists to honor the contribution of frontliners from a sky bridge at Ratna Park in Kathmandu.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) removed the art dedicated to health workers, security personnel, journalists, corpse management personnel and sanitation workers who had been at the forefront of the fight against coronavirus.

NC Spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma, issuing a statement Thursday, claimed that removing the art amounted to an insult to frontliners, and viewed that the metropolis should have praised the art.

Leaders of the Nepal Students’ Union Dujang Sherpa, Thinley Lama, Kipa Sherpa and Sumina Shrestha, had spent a week painting on the wall in honor of frontliners.

KMC erased the art made by the artists saying a new painting would be erected there. The metropolis has stated that it will spend millions of rupees to create a new art that would reflect the traditions of Kathmandu.
