UML’s Nepal-Khanal faction’s SC meeting begins at Buddhanagar

To come up with common view on Friday's CC meeting

KATHMANDU: The Standing Committee (SC) meeting of the Nepal-Khanal faction of the ruling CPN-UML has started at Quality Banquet based in Buddhanagar on Thursday.

The meeting will come up with an official decision whether to participate in the central committee or not called by the Oli faction for Friday, said a UML leader.

Leaders of the disgruntled faction have been divided over the participation in the CC meeting.

Some leaders are in favor of the CC meeting while the others are against it commenting that this CC is nothing but ‘old wine in a new bottle’.

Senior leader Madhav Nepal, Bhim Rawal, Astalaxmi Shakya, Surendra Pandey, Gokarna Bista, Yogesh Bhattarai, Yubaraj Gyawali, Raghuji Pant, Ghanshyam Bhusal among others present in the SC meeting.

The  meeting will also to come up with a common view on the dissolution of the 10th general convention organizing committee by the establishment.

The UML decided to restore the central committee (CC) that existed prior to May 16, 2018.

According to Yubarj Gyawali, a standing committee member, even though party chairman KP Oli announced to have taken the party back to the previous status, there have been still a lot of reservations.

The Nepal-Khanal faction has been dissatisfied after the committee declared invalid by the Supreme Court appointed six leaders to the Standing Committee.

The agreement between the two factions can be possible only when the establishment agrees to seal a deal on a package, said Birodh Khatiwada.
