Prez Bhandari shows desire to address National Assembly



KATHMANDU: President Bidya Bhandari has expressed her desire to address the National Assembly meeting.

Chairman of the National Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timilsina has informed that the President will attend the meeting of the National Assembly on Sunday or Monday.

At a meeting of the National Assembly Business Advisory Committee held on Thursday, Chairman Timilsina informed that the President wanted to address the meeting of the National Assembly.

On the other hand, the staff of the Parliament Secretariat said that apart from convening a joint session of both the houses and presenting the policies and programs of the government, there is no tradition for the President to be present in the Parliament at such times.

An employee of the Parliament Secretariat said that there is no parliamentary tradition for the head of state to address the meeting of the National Assembly.

Meanwhile, at a meeting of the National Assembly Business Advisory Committee on Thursday, Timilsina said that Home Minister Bishnu Poudel had demanded to address the meeting.

This issue was discussed with the party leaders for some time. Finally, it was agreed to hold a meeting in both phases, in the first phase the party leaders would address, and in the second phase, it was agreed to allow the Home Minister to speak, said a member of the National Assembly.

The eighth session of the National Assembly is starting at 4 pm today.
