Two buried to death, three injured in Tanahun landslides

Concrete bridge swept away



KATHMANDU:  Two people have died and three others sustained injuries after landslides buried their houses in Bandipur rural municipality-3, of Tanahun district on Thursday morning.

The deceased have been identied as 70-year-old Harimaya Basel and Saraswati Thapa, 30, informed Purna Singh Thapa, chairman of the rural municipality.

The dead bodies of Basel and Thapa who went missing in the landslide were retrieved this morning.

Floods triggered by incessant rains have also swept away a concrete bridge built over the Chhabdi Khola connecting wards 1 and 13 of Vyas municipality in Tanahu district.

With the bridge swept away, the connection between the two wards has been disrupted.

The bridge was swept away after the floods surged in the Chhabdi Khola, informed Bishwa Bastola, a local.

Similarly, the floods have posed risk to some houses in the vicinity. Landslides have occurred in five different places along the Prithvi Highway, said DSP Yubaraj Timalsina.  The highway has been disrupted since early morning today, said Timalsina.
