JSP Chair Thakur faction decides to expel Chair Yadav

KATHMANDU: Chairman Mahantha Thakur of Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) has decided to expel another Chairman Upendra Yadav from the party in a tit for tat move.

The move from Thakur faction of the party comes hours after a meeting of the majority of Executive Committee members Tuesday expelled Chairman Thakur, senior leader Rajendra Mahato, and leaders Laxman Lal Karna and Sharvendra Nath Shukla.

A meeting of Thakur’s faction of the party Tuesday decided to expel Yadav in a tit for tat move. “It has been decided to expel Upendra Yadav,” said one of the leaders of Thakur faction.

The JSP is engaged in a bitter row with two factions seeking an explanation from one another.

Observers say the JSP is on the brink of split after the two factions have been sharply divided after Prime Minister KP Oli dissolved the House of Representatives.

Meanwhile, it is noteworthy that the JSP was formed after uniting two parties – Rastriya Janata Party and Samajbadi Party Nepal – last year with the objective of forming an alternative political force in the country to champion the cause of equality, identity, and empowering the marginalized communities.
