KMC to provide Rs 60 million in compensation to affected locals at Sisdol landfill site



KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has decided to provide Rs 60 million in compensation to the affected locals at the Sisdol landfill site.

KMC mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya in a talk with the affected people and the teacher’s management struggle committee at the affected area on 26 March agreed to address the demands of the affected people.

As per the agreement, the KMC will provide Rs 30 million each to affected Kakani Rural Municipality in Nuwakot district and Dhunibesi Rural Municipality in Dhading district for infrastructure development, taking initiatives to fulfill teacher’s quotas at local affected schools as demanded by the struggle committee and for providing budget to construct a 15-bed hospital and manage four doctors.

The meeting was attended by Provincial Assembly member Badri Mainali from Nuwakot district, chair of Kakani Rural Municipality Man Bahadur Lama, vice-chair Sita Lama, ward chairs of affected areas in Kakani and Dhunibenshi Rural Municipalities, representatives of local political party and stakeholders.

The KMC has been dumping garbage produced from the Kathmandu Valley in the area.
