Adequate budget in security for prosperous Nepal: Home Minister Thapa



KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa has said the security sector needs to have an adequate budget to meet the national ambition of a prosperous Nepal.

Speaking at the second quarterly review meeting of the fiscal year 2077/78 in the Home Ministry, Minister Thapa viewed the investment in the security sector was linked to people’s security and sovereignty.

“The data showed that establishment of BOP on borders has reduced crime and contributed to increase in revenue. So, investment in security is important,” he argued.

The Minister however directed the ministry employees to work effectively, thereby ensuring concrete result as the present progress was not enough.

“Why did we fail to meet targets? The targets except the ones affected by Covid-19 should be reviewed and recklessness corrected,” he stressed.

On the occasion, Home Secretary Maheshwor Neupane shared information that both the capital expenditure and disposal of arrears were little.

Time has come to work in a way to ensure quality change, he directed subordinate employees. The subordinate offices including Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force, National Identity Card and Vital Registration Department, Immigration Department, Jail Departments and others presented progress report.

Even the representatives from the National Planning Commission and the Finance Ministry were present in the review meeting.
