Proprietor of Lumbini Sugar Mills Agrawal arrested from Birgunj

BIRGUNJ: Proprietor of Lumbini Sugar Mills at Sunawal in Nawalparasi Manoj Agrawal has been arrested from Birgunj.

Agrawal, who was absconding after the government issued an arrest warrant against the sugar mill proprietors who have denied payment to sugarcane farmer, was arrested by the police from Birgunj on Thursday morning.

A team of the Crime Division of Nepal Police arrested Agrawal in coordination with the District Police Office, Parsa.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Dhiraj Pratap Singh, Chief of Police of Province 2, said that Parsa Police arrested Agrawal from Birgunj at the request of Metropolitan Crime Division, Baneshwor.

Superintendent of Police at Ganga Pant, however, said that Agrawal was called to the police office for necessary investigation.

“It is not that the police have arrested him. Agrawal was summoned for questioning at the request of the District Police Office, Nawalparasi,” she said.

The sugar industry is registered in the name of Sushila Goyal. But, Sushila’s elder brother Agrawal has a share in the sugar mills.

Earlier, the management of the sugar mills had stated that the sugarcane farmers’ money was due because of a dispute over the ownership of the sugar mills. It is yet to pay Rs 170 million to the farmers.
