Recommendation made to shift over 1,000 landslide-devastated and affected houses



MYAGDI: A recommendation has been made to shift as many as 1,086 houses which have been affected and risked by landslides in Myagdi.

According to the District Administration Office, the recommendation was made for the reconstruction of houses devastated and shifting of houses affected by landslides occurred since last June 15.

Chief District Officer Umakanta Adhikari shared that the recommendation was made to the Home Ministry for the reconstruction of landslide-devastated houses and shifting of 821 vulnerable houses.

The district-based disaster management committee prepared an integrated report following the onsite study made by separate teams of people’s representatives of the municipality, technicians, staffs and district police office.

“We made the recommendation for the study of the devastated, vulnerable and proposed areas for shifting”, CDO Adhikari said, adding that the way for rehabilitation would open after identifying vulnerable and secured areas as per the recommendations of the team of geologists.

As many as 209 homes of 15 settlements of Dhawalagiri rural municipality, 375 homes of 22 settlements of Malika and 137 homes of eight settlements of Annapurna rural municipality have been recommended for shifting.

Likewise, 100 homes of nine settlements of Mangala, 161 homes of 15 settlements of Raghuganga and 86 homes of 12 settlements of Beni municipality have been recommended for shifting.

It may be noted that as many as 31 people killed and six went disappeared due to landslide in Myagdi since June 15.
