Lawmakers stress political unity on national agenda

KATHMANDU: Lawmakers at the House of Representatives (HoR) have labelled the Nepali Congress’ decision for the cause of nationality as positive.

Speaking at the zero hour of the HoR on Sunday, lawmakers emphasized the need for a broader political unity for the cause of national interests.

The lawmakers also highlighted the need of broader consensus to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Nepali Congress on Saturday decided to vote for the amendment of the constitution.

Lawmaker Hari Adhikari labeled the decision as important.

Likewise, Birodh Khatiwada appreciated the NC’s decision for demonstrating national unity on issues.

Khatiwada also stressed the need of seeking solutions to thorny issues between Nepal and India through diplomatic efforts.

He also drew the government’s attention towards the reports that preparations were on to operate public transport along the route constructed unilaterally by India in Kalapani-Limpiyadhura-Lipulek area.

Surendra Kumar Karki drew the government’s attention towards increasing number of Nepalis returning from India every day.

He demanded to streamline the influx of Nepalis returning from various bordering points and facilitate them in reaching their homes.

Lawmaker Binda Pandey said that the cases of violence against women were on rise in many quarantine facilities and demanded action against the perpetrators.

Shashi Shrestha, meanwhile, called for easing the lockdown, stating that the stay-at-home had pushed the economy on the brink of jeopardy.

Lawmaker Shanta Chaudhary termed the Rukum Paschim incident a severe crime and demanded action against those involved in the carnage ensued over the issue of inter-caste marriage.
