‘Over 300 Nepalis infected with coronavirus in US’



KATHMANDU: With the coronavirus taking a heavy toll on America, Nepali migrant workers have also been hit in the country by the novel virus.

According to Ananda Bista, president of Nepali Public Relations Committee, America, Jeevan Bam, general secretary of Farwestern Society, America has been diagnosed with the novel virus.

Posting a message on his Facebook account, Bista said, “Over 300 Nepali migrant workers have been infected with the COVID-19 across America based on the number of Nepali people who came into contact asking for help.”

Meanwhile, another migrant worker Shambhu Moktan said he has been infected with the novel virus and urged other people to not hide their diseases, reasoning that if revealed it will help save the community from getting infected further.

Bishnu Subedi, former coordinator of Nepali Public Relations Committee, America said a large number of Nepali migrant workers are infected with the virus in New York.

According to him, 11 Nepali migrants infected with the novel virus are infected at Kings County Hospital, seven in Udaal and 12 in Elmo.  Some are undergoing treatment at home since the hospitals are chock-a-block with the patients.

Earlier a week ago, Anil Subba from Rani Village of Panchthar has died of coronavirus in the USA.

Nepalis have also been infected in Texas, California and other states.

Meanwhile, NRNA America has decided to provide Rs US $300 to the family of coronavirus victim as relief.
