NA Committee to remove provision requiring journalists to pass a test

KATHMANDU: Amid dissenting views coming from journalists, the National Assembly Legislation Committee today decided to remove a provision from the Media Council Bill that required journalists to compulsorily pass a ‘test’ to become a journalist.

The committee has earlier this week passed the bill along with the controversial provision.

It should be noted that Minister for Communications Gokul Baskota, too, had protested the provision saying it was unnecessary and impractical.

The provision was criticized by journalists and journalists’ organizations.
