Students flock to Saraswati temples for blessings (in pics)

KATHMANDU: Saraswati Puja is being observed in the Kathmandu Valley with much fanfare.

Devotees especially students have flocked to Saraswati temples based in Swoyambhu, Maitidevi, Gairidhara, Lele in Lalitpur since early Thursday.

There is a religious belief that if students worship Saraswati goddess, they will get success in their study. Saraswati is regarded as the goddess of knowledge, music, arts, and literature.

It falls on Shukla Panchami of the Nepali month Magh, which marks the beginning of the spring season. Hence, it is also known as Basanta Panchami.

Today is also considered an auspicious day for teaching alphabets to the beginners. Parents, therefore, take their children to schools to learn alphabets on the occasion.
