Global COVID-19 cases hit 25.1 million, recovery rate at 69 pc



KATHMANDU: More than 25.1 million people have been infected with the coronavirus pandemic that has been spreading around the globe.

Over 256,178 have been diagnosed with the coronavirus in a single day that put the global case tally to 25.1 million as of Sunday morning.

The number of deaths worldwide in the last 24 hours is 5,279 that took the number of deaths to 846,642. Out of total cases, 17.5 million (69.56 percent) have recovered so far.

Coronavirus has killed 207,197 people in European countries. European countries had witnessed 3.53 million cases and 2.58 million have recovered so far.

A total of 269,747 people have died in North American countries. The number of infections has reached 7.27 million. Of them, 4.18 million have been declared infection-free.

Similarly, 139,635 people have died in Asian countries. Out of 6.88 million people infected, 5.49 million have recovered and at least 199,936 people have died in South American countries. Of the 6.19 million infected, 4.76 million have recovered.

In African countries, 29,472 people have died as 1.21 million have been infected. Out of the infected, 972,908 have won their fight against the coronavirus.

At least 640 people have died in Oceania and Australia. Of the 28,385 people infected, 22,906 have recovered.

Meanwhile, in the highest single-day surge recorded in any country so far, India added nearly 79,000 fresh cases to its Covid-19 tally on Saturday.

India’s COVID-19 caseload has reached 3.53 million with 78,903 cases confirmed in the last 24 hours.

At 78,903 fresh cases, Saturday’s Covid-19 numbers in India went past the previous highest single-day count of 78,427 infections reported in the US on July 25, when that country was witnessing its biggest surge of the virus, Times of India reported.

Of the total infected, 2.7 million have recovered so far while 763,535 are receiving treatment. The death toll in India had risen to 63,657 with 944 deaths in the last 24 hours.
