NSU yet to get full shape

KATHMANDU: The ad hoc committee of the Nepal Student Union – the student wing of the Nepali Congress (NC) – has not yet taken a full shape.

Although the committee was formed six months back under the leadership of Rajib Dhungana, it has yet to get a complete shape.

NC central committee meeting held on 13 February 2020 formed an ad hoc committee of the NSU with a mandate to timely accomplish its 12th general convention.

It may be noted that Nain Singh Mahar, who was elected President from its 11th general convention, had tendered his resignation citing inability to hold the 12th general convention.

With this resignation, there was a debate on the enforcement of its statute regarding the age of the presidential candidate. According to NSu statute regarding age, the NSU President should be below 32 years.

Almost after 13 months, NSU got its ad hoc committee with Dhungana (aged over 32) as the President.

The NSU headed by Dhungana has Tulasa Pant and Mukti Poudel as vice-presidents, Deepak Bhattarai, Urmila Thapaliya, Prabhat Dahal, Manoj Baidya, Maheswori Kunwar, Baldev Timilsina and Yubaraj Pandey as general secretaries.

General Secretary Bhatatrai said the process for holding the general convention was stalled with the party’s reluctance to fulfill the committee.

He further said the NSU would expedite its preparation for the general convention once the committee got full shape.

NC spokesperson Biswo Prakash Sharma said internal discussions are being held in the party to give complete shape to the NSU ad hoc committee. RSS
