KATHMANDU: The Australian government has said it will provide hardship fund to foreign students after Coronavirus took a heavy toll on the world’s economy.

The government of Victoria State of Australia decided to provide A$1,100 each to a foreign student under A$45 million package announced  for foreign tertiary students.

The state government says up to 40,000 students will  be eligible to receive emergency relief payments of up to A$1,100.

“Our first priority must be to show unequivocally how much we value the personal, cultural, social and economic contributions international students make to Australia. Otherwise, by year’s end, we stand to lose tens of thousands of students who will rightly feel let down by a country that has been all too ready to take their money but has shown no willingness to help them in their time of need,” reads the statement issued by the federal government.

Over 150,000 foreign students have been staying in Victoria State, of which many of them have lost their jobs due to coronavirus.
