New cities to be developed in Kathmandu Valley

KATHMANDU: Minister of State for Urban Development Rambir Manandhar shared that budget will be allocated in the new fiscal year to develop new cities in the Kathmandu Valley considering the density of population in the Valley and the surrounding.

During a meeting held in his office with parliamentarians on Tuesday, State Minister Manandhar said that the government had attached utmost priority to the construction of an alternative ring road, proposed Tokha Chhahare tunnel and under-construction tunnel at Naubise and development of new cities.

A 65-km ring road would be built linking the districts outside the Valley and places as Chhahare, Thansingh, Dhikure, Devighat, Mahadevphant, Galchhi, Naubise.

The budget for fiscal year 2020/21 would also incorporate a safe residence program and at least 100,000 families having thatched roof will get corrugated zinc sheet.

Secretary at the Ministry shared that some new programs were included for the new fiscal year while giving continuation to the ongoing programs.

Lawmaker from Darchula district Ganesh Singh Thagunna expressed happiness for inviting lawmakers in consultation before releasing the budget. According to him, budget management had faced a lack of parliamentarian’s recommendations in the last budget release session.

Jivan Ram Shrestha, lawmaker from Kathmandu urged the government to launch programs that would develop the places ignored within the Kathmandu Valley.

The meeting was attended by Damodar Bhandari (Baitadi), Ganesh Pahadi (Sindhuli), Narayan Khatiwada (Nuwakot), Lal Bahadur Thapa (Bajura) Prem Ale (Doti) Naradmuni (Kailali) and Bahadur Singh Lama (Nuwakot).
