NCC urges govt to introduce financial package to tourism sector

Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) has asked the government to bring fiscal stimulus package for reviving the tourism sector, which has been hit by the coronavirus pandemic.

The NCC has urged the government to rescue airline companies and hotels by introducing fiscal package as these sectors have been adversely dented by the impact of COVID-19.

It has also asked the government to bail out the tourism sector from the adverse economic impact. Meanwhile, the NCC delegation suggested the government to provide financial support including tax and airport charge exemption.

FNCCI submits 19-point suggestion letter to govt

Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has submitted a 29-point suggestion paper to the government.

Receiving the letter, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Lekh Raj Bhatta thanked the private sector for its role in easing the supplies during the critical phase induced by Coronavirus pandemic.

“The government will leave no stone unturned to make  raw materials required for industries available,” said Minister Bhatta, adding, ”The distribution system can be made effective only through the joint efforts of the government and the private sector.”

PCR portable machines brought from China useless

The Portable PCR machines brought from China to test the Covid-19 have been useless after it failed to function effectively.

The government of Nepal has bought five portable PCR machine costing Rs 2.1 million each worth Rs 10 million. These machines have been distributed to different laboratories in Janakpur, Pokhara, Butwal, Surkhet, and Dhangadi.

The machines hardly performed 12 tests day, therefore, some of the laboratories have stopped using it. Some other laboratories have also stopped using the machines brought from China.

Laboratories have suggested the government to bring an RT PCR machine instead of a Portable PCR machine.

Life insurance of Rs 3 million for medics

A meeting of Province Cabinet on Tuesday decided to provide insurance coverage worth Rs three million for medics involved in the treatment of coronavirus patients. In case of the death of any such frontline worker, the next to kin will receive the insurance amount of Rs three million.

Qatar to provide medical aid to Nepal

Qatar is providing urgent medical aid to Nepal after the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani has directed sending urgent medical aid to Nepal including Rwanda and Tunisia to help their governments in their fight against the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
