KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli has said it is irrelevant to pass unnecessary comments about the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) at the City Hall in the capital today, Prime Minister Oli said the MCC is a grant assistance without any links with Indo-Pacific Strategy.

“The MCC is a grant assistance which is not against the national interest, sovereignty, development process and national independence of Nepal,” asserted Oli.

Oli further said that it should be accomplished within five years according to the compact signed between the Nepal government and the MCC and the agreement ends once the project stops.

The MCC has offered this grant to Nepal on the condition that Nepal should ensure rule of law, human rights and democratic system, said Oli.

A total of 49 countries across the globe including Asia, Africa and Latin America have accepted the MCC grant so far, said Oli.

He went on to say that Nepal is in need of grant for investment irrespective of ideologies and should reap benefits from the MCC by endorsing it at the earliest.
