Increasing risk of COVID-19 in Kalimati Fruit and Vegetable Market

KATHMANDU: Risk of coronavirus infection has increased as businessmen and costumers are not found following the normal health criteria to be safe from infection at the Kalimati Fruit and Vegetable Market.

They are also not found wearing face mask as well as maintaining social distance.

Though coronavirus was confirmed on vegetable entrepreneurs of the Market earlier, precautions have not been found adopted there.

A monitoring team under the leadership of Agriculture Department of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City had reached the Kalimati Fruit and Vegetable Market this morning and found the market was operating as normal as past with people there not following the health safety protocols.

Number of coronavirus cases is increasing in Kathmandu Valley every day.

There are 425 wholesale, 65 retail and 27 fish shops in Kalimati Market.

The KMC had carried out monitoring of Kalimati Vegetable Market after receiving complaint of price hike of vegetables and fruits after prohibitory order.

The team also monitored whether or not health safety criteria in wholesale market.

KMC Agriculture Department Chief Hari Bahadur Bhandari urged all to be safe during this coronavirus pandemic.
