Employers, workers union ink MOU; workers to get respite

KATHMANDU: A memorandum of understanding has been signed to provide full remuneration to the COVID-19 embattled workers for the month of Chaitra (mid-March-mid-April) and fifty percent for Baisakh (mid-April-mid-May) and Jeth (mid-May-mid-June).

A joint meeting of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and the concerned individuals and groups held on Tuesday agreed to provide the workers facing trouble during the government-enforced lockdown period with remuneration.

According to the memorandum of understanding, the industrial establishment would provide full remuneration for the month (March-April, 2020) as per the previous scale.

In the context when the Nepal government has already decided on the remuneration of Chaitra (mid-March-mid-April), it was agreed to settle the issue by providing with 50 percent remuneration for the month (mid-April-mid-June).

Likewise, in the case of Jestha (mid-May-mid-June), the workers who could not join work due to lockdown would be provided 50 percent of their remuneration.

The bilateral memorandum of understanding was signed between the employers and joint trade union federation before the government representatives to this effect. RSS
