KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli, who is continuously facing pressure from the party even after the withdrawal of controversial ordinances, met with Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana on Monday night. The meeting between Oli and Rana took place at Baluwatar.

Oli was under fire after he brought two ordinances a week ago and was compelled to withdraw them after criticisms from all quarters including his party.

The meeting between Chief Justice Rana and Prime Minister Oli is viewed as significant in the current political scenario.

There have been reports that following Oli’s move to bring ordinances and their withdrawal, leaders loyal to Dahal-Madav group are  preparing to relieve Oli of his responsibility as the Prime Minister.

Oli is learnt to have been intensifying his activities after he fell into minority in Party Secretariat, Standing Committee and Parliamentary Party.

The other group in the party has been dissatisfied with Oli after he challenged the Party Secretariat’s proposal to nominate Bamdev Gautam to the National Assembly.

The NCP Secretariat on February 26 had proposed to nominate Gautam to the Upper House of the Federal Parliament.

Dahal-Madav group has suggested Prime Minister Oli to step down on the ground of morality following withdrawal of the controversial ordinances.

China has been concerned over the latest political developments of Nepal. Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi met with President Bidya Bhandari on Monday.

Similarly, Chinese President Xi Jinping in a telephonic conversation with his counterpart Bidya Bhandari expressed China’s firm support to Nepal in its fight against COVID-19.
