NSU asks govt to withdraw tax imposed on petroleum products

KATHMANDU: Nepal Student Union (NSU) has urged the government to immediately withdraw the tax imposed on petroleum products, reasoning it would cause an increase in the price of other daily essentials.

Stating that the amount being raised as infrastructure tax has not been utilized in an appropriate manner, the NSU said the increased tax is a serious matter.

It also asked the government to cancel the tax on books, and take action against those involved in financial irregularities including Lalita Niwas land scandal.

A press release issued by NSU Chair Rajeev Dhungana urged the bodies concerned on Friday to fix a new date for the election of free student union immediately.

Though the election of the Free Student Union was set for February 26, the Tribhuvan University decided to postpone the election at last hour citing a special reason.
