CHITWAN: Attorney General (AG) Agni Prasad Kharel has raised concern over the crime and its nature that has been growing in the society of late.
Laying the foundation stone of the District Government Attorney Office in Chitwan today, Kharel said a weak investigation has resulted in feeble prosecution, which he argued would lead to the criminal getting off the hook.
Saying that the rate of increase in such cases since the last five years has been 65 percent, he suggested posting joint attorneys in Kaski, Chitwan, Sunsari and Rupandehi districts as over 2,000 criminal cases are registered in these districts each year.
Citing to the lack of human resources in the country, AG Kharel he said one government attorney can handle only 150 cases.
He suggested that the arrest of an accused should be made only after carrying out an investigation rather than taking an accused into custody the moment a complaint was filed against him/her.
Kharel also emphasized the need for improving the condition of jails and developing prisons as correction centers.
